SOLVED:webcamstudio Installation errors

G'day fellow Kubuntians,

A neighbour of mine asked me to search for drivers for his Wise Web cam for his windows PC, and I thought I'd check it out in linux as I've not used webcams in linux before.

The KDE Natty page suggested to use webcamstudio so I followed the links to the Download page grabbed the deb file clicked on it, and viola it opened with deb-installer (awesome).
After installation I checked the log as I found it necessary for those types of installs (when they don't come from the repos) and noticed errors. I copied them, to post here, so if after the reboot there is an issue still I'd have something to show.

Well, I tried to start webcamstudio, but it's splash screen pop's up then nothing. Before anyone asks yes my Natty has ALL the Build Essentials and all software is current and updated.

I have webcamstudio installed with no problem, but it has nothing to do with webcam drivers. I suggest either kamoso or cheese to view webcam output. But if you do want to play with webcamstudio, do try the newer versions, the version you have is a bit clunky and buggy imo, the beta2 is less so.

The error you see is that webcamstudio uses a pseudo-webcam device so that it can add its features and animations to your existing webcam stream, it basically makes it look like you have 2 webcams, in other words. The kernel module it needs failed to compile due to something missing it needs.

It possible the package libv4l-dev may provide the missing files fix this, but I did no see this issue myself wiith either version of webcamstudio. The beta2 package should pull in everything needed.

But as to the webcam, make and model number would help, as well as the output oif the command 'lsusb' so we can see some extra info on the usb device.

Thanks M8, I now know the make and driver required for my neighbour though he's forgotten to tell me what windowzs platform he wants.
The picture is extremely out of focus, I wonder if the cam is a dud? It looks a little chatty and well used. Thanks again, I had not realised I installed the older version, by installing the newer up to date one the issue is SOLVED.
