    Some KDE4.7 bugs

    Upgraded Kubuntu 11.04 to KDE4.7.
I had a few minor issues and there is little to google for at the moment so I thought I'd post a list here:

    • My KDM theme was lost/uninstalled/moved during the upgrade. This is very minor, BUT after a reboot KDM would not load at all with an error message about not being able to find theme files. There needs to be some graceful fallback here. I had to log-in using a text console and startx from there, find a new theme, download it (further issues here, see below) and select that before I could use kdm. Lots of people are going to get completely lost here.
    • Downloading kdm themes using getnewstuff results in the themes being lost and not appearing in the theme selector. I can't find them anywhere and there is no obvious place to look for help here. As a work-around you can go to the theme's webpage instead of installing, download it and then install from the download.
    • For some reason, all of my fonts constantly get reset to 8pt ubuntu. It appears this happens after using an admin centre module that requires root privileges, but I'm still not sure of the exact cause. Any suggestions why are welcome as it is quite annoying.
    • On first log-in I had a slew of windows pop-up with various apps asking for higher privileges. Probably some kwallet issue or due to my launching kde from console rather than kdm. Hasn't happened again so probably not an issue.

And not forgetting a very old bug that still isn't fixed even with this update:

The panel popup where you add new widgets. Search bar still has blinking cursor but still isn't focused.

This is doesn't happen of you do it in a terminal, thru the gui i guess you didn't get the prompt for "do u wish to update this config file"

i've had this problem for some time on my desktop and my netbook (long before 4.7) use kdesudo systemsettings to launch the settings for when you want to install kdm themes. (lame i know but it does work)

I sometimes suffer a problem of my titlebar font being reset after entering admin areas in system settings (such as login management).
No other fonts are affected though. Maybe something to do with whatever theme you are using?

Changing fonts is definitely down to the administrator authorisation widget in the log-in manager window. Just selecting a theme and clicking apply so that the widget pops up is enough. Cancelling stills resets all fonts to 9pt ubuntu.
Having the admin-auth widget in other system settings modules doesn't seem to do this although I haven't done an exhaustive test.
            Anyone else get this?

Kmail seems unable to use kwallet at the moment but there is a new version in the pipeline and I haven't tried it yet.

Also have a minor issue where the panel loses transparency for no reason and can't be reset except by switching themes and switching back. Not to do with desktop effects either as they are all fine (including transparency in everything else). This happened in 4.6 too though.

Thanks for the kdesu system settings tip.

Just to put it on record, I have not had ANY of the problems you have described, everthing's working. The only problem I've had is that I had been using the package Knetworkmanager instead of the plasma widget network manager because it runs wicked slow and is too bloated. Knetworkmanager crashes on login every time but I'm still connected so I just re-installed the plasma widget.
