[SOLVED] Normalize-audio not found in K3b

When burning an audio CD with K3b there is an option to normalize audio levels, this requires 'normalize-audio' to be installed however.

    I followed the instructions:

    sudo apt-get install normalize-audio

However according to K3b it is still not installed.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Are you sure? Launch k3b and look at Settings > Configure k3b > Programs > User Parameters and you should see normalize-audio listed. It is here after I installed the package normalize-audio.

I agree that list half way down is 'normalize-audio' but if you look under 'Programs' tab rather than 'User Parameters' towards the bottom it states 'normalize-audio (not found)'. Or it does on mine anyway.

When I try to use this function when burning a CD it keeps prompting me to install it.

Under the Programs tab, the only items listed as (not found) are:

        sox
        transcode
        vcdxbuild
        vcdxminfo
        vcdxrip

Have you stopped k3b and reloaded it after installing normalize-audio?

I've closed K3b and restarted it, I even tried restarting my computer but still no joy.

I tried a suggestion on the Ubuntu forums that stated the K3b was looking for the binary 'normalize' and not 'normalise-audio', so I created a symbolic link but that still made no difference.

I'm not sure if I did that before I tried restarting, but even if the symbolic link is not required shouldn't it still find 'normalize-audio' in usr/bin?

Re: Normalize-audio not found in K3b

Okay, I'm (now) in agreement - normalize-audio is listed in the Programs tab as (not found). As normalize-audio is located in /usr/bin and that is an identified path for k3b, one of two things is possible:

              1) normalize-audio isn't being used by k3b (don't know why, if this is true),
              2) normalize-audio is 'hard coded' within k3b and pointing to a location that doesn't exist, or in which normalize-audio isn't found

I'd suggest reporting this as a bug.

I'd probably have to write a new post on how to do that

Either of you have experience with bug reports?

Did some googling and I believe it's already reported as a bug:

                  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...k3b/+bug/45026

                  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Normalize-audio not found in K3b

It is a bug, and it apparently has been around for a long time, with patches made, but not incorporated into the program itself.

However, there is a simple fix, and it's here. Create the script and save it as instructed. What the blog doesn't tell you, and must be done, is making the script executable after you have saved it. That done, launching k3b now reports normalize-audio in the Programs tab with the proper path.

I was just about to say I followed pretty much the same advice on the bug link I posted and it seems to be listed now.

It's unbelievable that this has been a bug for so long when the fix doesn't appear to be that difficult.

Unbelievable, yes. That it hasn't been fixed by the development team is really unacceptable. This problem has apparently been around for years!

I just emailed the k3b development team and pointed out the problem, one of the bug reports with (another) script solution, as well as the blog post I found, used, and pointed you to.

Hopefully they will take heed and fix this rather simple problem.

Re: Normalize-audio not found in K3b

FYI, in the "where there's a will, there's a way" category, audacity provides a "normalize" function in the "Effects" menu.

Not to minimize the K3b bug, but folks who need to get 'er done, find a way.
