Windows update error in Virtualbox and VMware

    Hi,

I have been using Kubuntu for many years now as my primary OS. And being an avid fan always readily upgrade to the latest version as soon as they are relased.

I just had a fresh install of Natty after a botched upgrade from Maverick.

I use VirtualBox to use Windows. After the upgrade windows guest is not able to update and throws an error 0x80072F8F. Through windows update website as well you get the same error. As obvious I googled to find the solution and not able to find one. Below are the solutions I have tried till now.
    • Have tried both VMware and Virtual Box, both gives the same error
    • Have tried both Windows 7 and XP same error, with multiple installs.
    • Disabled firewall
    • Checked the MTU settings for guest and host OS
    • Resintalled windows update componenets as per MS articles
    • Have tried NAT and Bridged mode

Currently am looking at third party update solutions. What I can assume as this problem is occuring for both Vmware and Virtualbox, it has to be some setting with Natty host OS.

Let me know your views, any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Cybeh

If I understand you correctly, you are able to get to the Windows desktop (as a guest OS) but when Windows tries to update you get that error. If so, your problem may be related to a broken shortcut to the "date and time" executable. Here is Microsoft's solution for that problem: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...8-8620eeb65efd
