[solved]How do you install WICD?

I'm planning on replacing Knetwork Manager with WICD.
Obviously I can install WICD via Kpackagekit but i understand it's not that simple and that I need to uninstall Knetwork Manager.

I was told that 'Grey Geek' had done a noddy guide on this but I'm unable to locate it, if any one knows how to do this or if Grey Geek is reading this your help will be appreciated.

Click on Search above, click Advanced search and type this into the search bar, including the quotes:

"Kubuntu cames with knm-runtime and some knetworkmanager guis and stuff installed."

It will identify his post you are looking for.

Do I still need to install the following though:

python-urwid
python-wicd
wicd
wicd-cli
wicd-curses
wicd-daemon
wicd-gtk

As I see in Kpackagekit there is:

wicd-kde

Yes. With all of them you can connect even if you don't have a GUI desktop. IOW, from a console.

Install that and skip wicd-gtk.

If you wish to use the kde client, wicd-kde, python-wicd and wicd-daemon are the only packages you (absolutely) need.

But like GreyGeek said, the curses client can be handy if you need to manage connections in a CLI as well (in that case add wicd-curses and python-urwid)

Thanks guys!

I now have WICD installed and running vice Knetwork Manager.

All the required packages were in Kpackagekit and some off the packages to remove were not on my system.

Running WICD was easy after a re-boot as the Ethernet Icon was on the panel.

I was caught out for a bit when it hung trying to obtain an IP Address, until I realised I should probably configure the password etc first

All in all very happy, shall see how it goes now.
