Single click to open folders but not files in Dolphin column view

Does anyone know how to do this? Mac OS X has this sort of behavior - when in column view, single click on a folder displays the contents of the folder in a new column where as to open a file, the user must double click it.

To the best of my knowledge, this is not possible. In System Settings > Input Devices > Mouse > Icons the choice is double-click to open files and folders and double-click to open files and folders.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Too bad that it is not possible.
Do you think this behavior is by design or is it something that got overlooked? Should a feature request/bug be filed?

'by design' I believe yes. As such, a bug report is not appropriate. However, if you want to request this feature, by all means do so.

Another option is to middle-click on the directory, this will open it in a new tab.
