    Packages for Kmail2?

    Hi all,

Recently the KDE team released the update to their desktop series (4.6.4) along with the new (supposedly stable) version of Kmail2. Kubuntu released packages for the KDE4.6.4 but not for Kmail2. Does anyone know where I can find them (or if they even exist)?

The only repo I have been able to find is

    deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa...mental/ubuntu/ natty main

which contains a beta version of Kmail2...

Thanks in advance for any help!
    Kubuntu 12.04 64-bit

The kdepim 4.6.0 sources seem to have been uploaded to staging ppa for building (WARNING: do not use the staging ppa, the built packages will be released eventually in another ppa...staging is for building only).

kdepim has failed to build, though, so you'll have to wait until the build error is sorted out (kdepim-runtime seems to build ok)

Ok, thanks! So, I guess when the building error is sorted, there will be an announcement in the Kubuntu page, indicating the repo?

I'd expect so, but I'm not sure what the announcement policy is for "experimental" packages. Even though kdepim 4.6.0 is a "stable" release, it's one of those "point-zero" releases that are mainly targeted at testers...if you wish to test it, there seems to be packages available in the Kubuntu Kontact SoUP (software update ppa) repository (I haven't tested them myself, so I can't really say whether they work as expected).

Just a cautionary note: The PPA and its owner registered with Launchpad only a month ago, so place your trust accordingly. You may also wish to take into account the user's incoherent, profanity-laced Kubuntu blog: http://lumks.blogspot.com/

Thank you very much for your answers. I think I will wait for an official repo; the current Kmal is not that bad after all.

Perhaps I should have made it more clear that it wasn't an "official" ppa, so the normal amount of caution when using ppas is in order, thanks for bringing that up.

However, the packages in the ppa are copies from the uploads of Jonathan Kolberg (can a ppa owner mess with copied uploads?).

The packages are now available from kubuntu experimental ppa as well: https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+...e/experimental

The packages are indeed copied from a trustworthy source, so as individual packages they're probably fine. But when they're cherry-picked together with other interdependent packages (Akonadi, etc.) by someone inexperienced or simply ignorant, you could end up with a combination of upgrades that causes you more than the usual amount of PPA-induced strife.
