    Hi....

    It sounds like you did a lot better with 10.10 from what you said three posts ago.

      I did but I don't want to be stuck with an older unsupported version. I find this really ridiculous that things have been changed to the point I can't use nvidia's driver. I don't understand why I have to use nouveau driver. What happened to the freedom to choose?? I want the freedom to choose what I use on my computer. If I wanted to settle for whatever is installed I would have stayed with Windows.
      Oneiric 11.10 KDE Version 4.7.4<br />Duo core 1.8 Intel<br />4 gig ram<br />Nvidia Go 7300 Graphics<br />Dell E1505 Laptop<br /><br />I&#39;m a happy pappy with Linux on my lappy!!!

        Hi....

        This is just my opinion and my opinion only but if 10.10 worked well for you I would go ahead and stick with it. Or, if you want a longer support option, you could also try 10.04. You could also wait and try 11.10 when it comes out in October. Natty isn't working well for a lot of folks. Certainly Linux gives one more "freedom" (as in rights) than Windows or other proprietary OS's but it has its flaws too and, unfortunately, one of them is poor driver support and bugs.

        I installed 10.04 x64 last August and, although it's not perfect, it runs very well and it detected and set up all my devices without a hitch. I've ran it since then without installing any updates and it's still plugging away.

          You have your freedom to choose. What you don't have is a guarantee that whatever software you choose will function correctly on whatever hardware you throw it at.

          Did you follow this: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3117178.0

          After you install version 11.04, and before you try to use the Kmenu > System > Additional Drivers, you need to do this:

          Code:
          sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-`uname -r`
          Then highlight "current driver" in the Additional Drivers dialog, and then "Activate".

          Does the "additional drivers" appear to function correctly? It should automatically replace the nouveau driver with the nvidia driver. At what point do you first perceive that there is a problem?
