Enable Show FPS effect=smooth kwin performance, but...

Kwin performance on my Core i7 920/GeForce 98000 GTX+ (using Nvidia binary driver) is horrible. I've tried tweaking everything I can think of: turn off Blur, turn off Vsync, add various options to xorg.conf, etc... but nothing helped except Show FPS effect. After I enabled this effect, animation is much smoother and moving window around desktop no longer stutter. The only bad part is that it shows bar graph on the desktop all the time.

Question is, is there anyway to enable Show FPS without having the bar graph showing? Better yet, is there other ways of getting smooth kwin performance without having to turn on Show FPS effect?

Have you enhanced your xorg.conf file to take advantage of the nvidia card and drivers?

I did. I tried different option found here:

      ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li...igoptions.html

They don't make any difference. I tried Compiz and it's very smooth, but I prefer native Kwin window decorators.
