    Originally I was going to leave Windows 7 home professional on it and duel boot but the way it came all 4 primary partitions were used .......like this

    GNU Parted 2.2
    Using /dev/sda
    Welcome to GNU Parted! Type 'help' to view a list of commands.
    (parted) print all
    Model: ATA WDC WD5000BEVT-6 (scsi)
    Disk /dev/sda: 500GB
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
    Partition Table: msdos

    Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
    1 1049kB 210MB 209MB primary ntfs boot
    2 210MB 480GB 479GB primary ntfs
    3 480GB 500GB 20.5GB primary ntfs
    4 500GB 500GB 108MB primary fat32 lba
    1=system
    2=os
    3=recovery
    4=HP-tools

    So sense I got a recovery DVD set with it (at a price) I sead what the h311 I'll just go on with it.

    Started by cutting up the disk like so
    vinny@Vinnys-HP-G62:~$ sudo parted
    [sudo] password for vinny:
    GNU Parted 2.3
    Using /dev/sda
    Welcome to GNU Parted! Type 'help' to view a list of commands.
    (parted) print all
    Model: ATA WDC WD5000BEVT-6 (scsi)
    Disk /dev/sda: 500GB
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
    Partition Table: msdos

    Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
    1 32.3kB 4195MB 4195MB primary linux-swap(v1)
    2 4195MB 26.0GB 21.8GB primary ext4 boot
    3 26.0GB 237GB 210GB primary ext4
    4 237GB 500GB 264GB extended
    5 237GB 268GB 31.6GB logical ext4
    6 268GB 300GB 32.0GB logical ext4
    7 300GB 500GB 200GB logical ext4

    (parted)
    1=swap
    2=/
    3=/home
    5=partition for test installs
    6=partition for test installs
    7=storage

    then ran the install from a USB with Kubuntu-11.04-64 bit loaded on it; with the start up disk creator on a Kubuntu 10.04 cd.
    Wile hardwired to the net

    did all the updates and ........... O ya the wireless nead's a driver .............. this turned out to prity painless however.

    installed "build-essential" and followed post #58 hear...... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1779005&page=6

    as soon as I modprobed it in....... it sprang to life .....clicked the networkmanager icon clicked my network interd my WPA2 passkey ........and good to go 8)

    now let's see about that HP-2311x 23" wide screen plug it in go to Kickoff>system settings>display click the dropdown box for HDMI1 size (is saying disabled at the moment) and click 1920X1080 position above ..........and check it out...........

    Re: HP-G62

    Did a search on HP-G62 and found too many models to narrow down the search to the one you have. Can you supply the rest of the model number? I'm guessing it is the 373DX

    I may be in the market for a new laptop/notebook...

      Model # G62x-400
      product # LD642AV

      well just tested suspend to ram and resume ...........works like it should

      VINNY

      EDDIT: 1 caveat with the multiple screens however is that you must boot with the HDMI unplugged and then attach and adjust after Kubuntu is up ......if you leave it plugged in during boot every thing gets garbled ...... but thats not to difficult to remember
