First off, I am not a newbie to UNIX/LINUX; I started out with CHROMIX on an S-100 job & have worked with UNICOS on the X-MP..
I've run dual boots of XP and everything from 8.04 (K)Ubuntu from laptops to servers..
So it is with a real dismay that I cannot get a proper dual boot of 11.04 and XPpro 32 bit version on my laptop.
I've done two fresh installs of XP including the Android SDK ( you know why I need BOTH O/S on the box ) for Windows...
But when I install 11.04 Kubuntu, I get the following on an attempt to boot up XP after a successful install of Natty:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
I normally share a common data file separate from the two O/S for this reason.
However when I looked at the partitions the first time, Partition Magic and others just indicated PARTITION ERRORS and offered to reset the partition tables, effectively wiping the drive....
I did manage to recover the shared data partition and wipe both O/S partitions the first time, then did an XP full install, followed by Kubuntu 11.04
AND GOT THE SAME RESULT!!
I've done the CL upgrade GRUB bit...I'm no stranger to the CL.
Any easy fixes I have missed out there? Yes, I've done a search. 8)
