Fresh install...no changes whatsoever. Start terminal... OK. Try to resize konsole by dragging lower right corner...freezes -- everytime! Not using a proprietary graphics driver. Software updated during install. Must do a "hard" power-button restart! Wassup?

Re: Screen freeze on new Natty install
The next time it happens and you've rebooted, open a Konsole (but don't try to resize it) and issue
dmesg
scroll back through the listing to just before your current bootup and read the messages. IF the xserver had time to write something that info may be shown by dmesg. Or, you could avoid the Konsole and open KSystemLog (KMenu --System-->KSystemLog).
It has the system, kernel, authentication, daemon and the xorg logs indicated by icons at the top of the screen. Click them one at a time and examine the lines prior to the current boot. (Use the clock setting shown at the first of each line and find the date & time just before your last hang.)"A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”

Re: Screen freeze on new Natty install
@feffer,
Good instructions from Mr. GreyGeek...
Perhaps you could try to see if your Desktop Effects have been enabled.
System Settings -> Desktop Effects;
-> Un-check "Enable Desktop Effects" (if it is checked).
Now try Konsole and see if it is re-sizeable....
If it is, you are running into a graphics driver/ Xorg problem...I would be surprised if you DONT have an Nvidia based GPU...
See this post for more info...

Do a "dkms status" to see what (if any) graphics kernel modules are loaded ...

Re: Screen freeze on new Natty install
OK, thx all. Disabling Desktop Effects fixed this for the moment. And yes, I have an nVidia graphics card. Will probably leave it alone until the fixed driver gets into the repo, or I hear more about it.
