All,
I am one of those unfortunate users who cannot get their Nvidia driver to work with Desktop Effects enabled in Natty. I have an Nvidia GTS-250 board that worked flawlessly in Maverick. Now, despite considerable dorkage with driver installation/blacklisting/initramfs updating, I am still unable to run my desktop with Desktop Effects enabled. My symptom was, and remains, a hard X-Server crash if I launch Konsole and attempt to resize the window with Desktop Effects enabled. The only recovery from this crash is a hard reset or power cycle. As an aside, I wish to shout out to Mr. Dibl, and Mr. DoctorDruidphd with appreciation for their posts with regard to Nvidia Driver Installation - good stuff.
Anyway, I did some research into the problem and found this bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...rs/+bug/760632
What I got out of this was that Nvidia is aware of the problem, and that they feel the forthcoming 275.XX based driver will correct the problem. I noticed that Nvidia released 275.33 WHQL drivers for Win7-64 today (see the Nvidia Driver Website).
Hopefully, this might indicate that help is on the way for those of us with the problem noted above. I'm not normally given to optimism, but the Windoze Driver release has given me a glimmer of hope...
Anyone else out there know more?
cheers,
XhwMikey
