    Re: Long delay until I get the KDE login screen

    You have two drivers installed, which might be an issue. However, I doubt that would cause a long delay in your boot.

    If you're not sure what's going on with the video driver, read through /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

    During your next boot, hit the "esc" key to toggle text mode. You should see messages and be able to see where your boot is stalling. I get about a 20 second stall when my nfs shares are mounting because the network isn't ready yet.

      OK, I pressed the escape key, repeatedly or at least numerous times during the last reboot. I was continually greeted with a blue screen, for 3 minutes and 15 seconds, until I got the KDE login screen. At least this problem is repeatable, and very timely. LOL

      So what keeps giving me the blue screen? I have "quiet" removed in grub:

      Code:
      GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash"
      Is it that Plymouth business or what? I've attached my Xorg.0.log as well to examine.

      Thanks!

        remove the splash to see your boot action. You don't need to edit anything perimnately, just hit "e" at the grub line you want to boot to, delete the "splash", and then ctrl-x to continue booting.

          Well, that was interesting ... I did remove splash permanently from grub (and ran update-grub after removing it) ... Rebooted. Greeted with 3 min. 15 seconds of blue screen, followed by just a few lines of text, maybe 15-20 lines and then the KDE login screen.

          The text on the screen went by so fast, I didn't get a chance to read it but I thought I saw the word "Plymouth" in there.

          I'll reboot again and try to watch more closely. Sure wish I could disable that blue screen!

            Read the files /var/log/kern.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log and report anything interesting
