A few days ago I did a wipe and fresh install of 11.04 on my desktop machine, and am experience video issues. I've got a GeForce 210 video card, dual monitors, running the NVidia proprietary drivers.
The first issue is that the X server frequent hogs the CPU. HiTop frequently reports it in excess of 70%. And I've noticed that occasionally X will launch of VT8 instead of VT7 (currently, for example, vt7 shows "mountall: Disconnected from Plymouth", so is this an issue with Plymouth integration?).
UPDATE: kdeinit is another frequent CPU hog. Currently, HiTop is reporting two instances of "kdeinit4: kded4 [kdeinit]" at 101% and 98% with "/usr/bin/x :0 vt8 -nr -nolisten tcp -auth /var/run/xauth/A:0-HVk6oc" between 6 and 60%.
UPDATE 2: the kdeinit problem seems to be the same as this thread, which references this bug report. Fortunately, kill -9 kills it without apparent side effect.
The second is severe snow artifacts, with near-zero visibility when I drag windows around. This happens with or without desktop effects enabled.
Am I alone?
