No pretty Kubuntu boot screen on startup

Running 11.04 after an upgrade from a fresh install of 10.10 on a Dell Studio 1737 laptop, 64-bit. I get the pretty Kubuntu splash screen on shutdown, but on startup, I get a plain blue screen, with the text "Kubuntu" near the top left of the screen, plus some other text (I can't remember what the other text says at the moment; I'd have to re-log in. )
I've seen where NVidia drivers cause the "ugly splashcreen" problem, but I don't have an NVidia driver--mine's Intel Mobile 4 Series. Anyone have any suggestion how I get the boot screen to look as good as the shutdown screen?

Same issue here. But I'm using nVidia GeForce 9500GT.

        My solution:

        delete proprietary GPU driver

That's what I've done to solve this issue on other machines where I install a proprietary NVidia driver, but on this one, I have not installed a proprietary driver.
