Moving from maverick to natty, I let the machine run all night but found it frozen, in the morning, on "configuring udisks" or roughly that. The mouse was frozen. I let it run for a few more hours, but found it still frozen there. I unplugged all the drives except the OS one; no change. As you might expect, when I tried rebooting, it wouldn't.
I couldn't get my Lucid DVD to install in that partition, or anything else, so I hooked it up as a slave, ran another OS and used GParted to reformat the partition. I have now installed an old Hardy distro on it and am using it now.
I'm going to try downloading and burning a DVD of Natty, and see if I can install that over this old Hardy program.
