Can not add network in network-manager-kde

Installed network-manager-kde and the plasma widget.
I can not add a (new) wired or wireless network connection in the system settings.I already tried to remove /var/lb/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state but this did not help.

Any suggestions how I can add a connection?

I'm not entirely sure about this but think the issue may be because you have installed both applications as I think they both do the same job.

Try uninstalling the plasma widget and reboot.

If not, please run the following command in a terminal

lspci

and post the output here.

Removing the plasma-widget did not help.

02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation WiFi Link 5100

iwlagn and iwlcore are loaded. I can establish a wireless connection manually but it does not work with network-manager.
The menu entries for adding a new network are greyed out and can not be accessed.

This is an upgrade.
I always had problems with knetworkmanager and used /etc/init.d/networking for my network connections. Since the upgrade to maverick I had to restart networking manually frequently. I hoped this will change with Natty, but it did not. So I thought I give networkmanager-kde a try.
I already tried wicd but it could not detect my hidden network. And networkmanager-kde does not allow me to add a new connection from the menu.
