    Re: [SOLVED]wireless won't connect

I seems to have the same exact problem, I as well have followed your instructions for installing and removing the wicd packages. When trying to sign into wifi i have been connected earlier i got the bad password warning.
I have reread your thread but I'm still unable to fix my problem
I'm new and inexperienced with ubuntu. Please help if you can.
I'm posting here some outputs of some commands which might shed more light on my problem.

      Re: [SOLVED]wireless won't connect

A "bad password", or showing garbled hex characters, is a classic symptom of KNetworkManager components still hanging around.

I believe network-manager is still installed. Try

            sudo apt-get remove network-manager

            Hope this helps -

              Re: [SOLVED]wireless won't connect

i tried "sudo apt-get remove network-manager" it says Package network-manager is not installed, so not removed etc.
any other suggestions, is there some other way of removing the leftovers?
              thanks.

                Re: [SOLVED]wireless won't connect

or could it be something with the WICD network manager
                I run "iwconfig"
                lo no wireless extensions.

                eth0 no wireless extensions.

                wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSIDff/any
                Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
                Tx-Power=15 dBm
Retry long limit:7 RTS thrff Fragment thrff
                Encryption keyff
                Power Managementff

                wlan1 Ralink STA ESSID:"" Nickname:"RT2870STA"
                Mode:Auto Frequency=2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
                Bit Rate:1 Mb/s
                RTS thrff Fragment thrff
                Encryption keyff
Link Quality=10/100 Signal level:0 dBm Noise level:-97 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
                Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

It all seems to be ok there, when i want to use my usb wireless adapter I always go to
preferences in wicd and change the wireless interface to wlan1 manually.
otherwise it won't detect it. but this have nothing to do with the bad password warning i guess.
                I'll keep, testing and checking.

                  Re: [SOLVED]wireless won't connect

and when i try connect to a wireless network (with my usb adapter wlan1) which is not password protected
after 2 minutes of trying to connect it says: that it can not get ip address.
but when connecting with build in wifi in wlan0 it works fine.
However connecting to an another password protected network(both usb wlan1 and buildin wlan0) seems to be ok.
                  any ideas

This. I use wicd even on wired connections as IMO network-manager is awful.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

After more than a day of wanting to smash my usb dongle with a hammer, I can finally get my kubuntu install online!

So, once again thanks to everyone who contributed in this thread and I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that us kubuntu noobs sure appreciate your time.

                    Thank you so much,

                    Erin.

Grey Goose's reply back in May of this year solved my wireless issues in Kubu Natty. Awesome thanks!
