I seems to have the same exact problem, I as well have followed your instructions for installing and removing the wicd packages. When trying to sign into wifi i have been connected earlier i got the bad password warning.
I have reread your thread but I'm still unable to fix my problem
I'm new and inexperienced with ubuntu. Please help if you can.
