    Graphics card problems

Okay, I got one that I absolutely figure out. I've got a Asus MN68-AM Plus motherboard with a GeForce 6200 graphics card.

Now, the graphics cards seems to work just fine, but whenever I play a video or, especially, flash online, the cpu usage goes up and the graphics get jerky and flash is just pathetic. So I took out my graphics card to try out the onboard graphics to see if it'd do the same. Nope, works perfectly. No problems with flash or anything.

Checked out BIOS. There's no way to disable onboard graphics, it's a dropdown list of graphic slot priorities.

I hate to see a good graphics card go to waste (if it is a good graphics card) so does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this or do I just need to get a different graphics card?

From the little bit of research I did, it appears that your on-board graphics is superior to your graphics card. The GeForce 6200 is vintage 2004, now seven years old. The graphics processor on your motherboard is a GeForce 7025, according to the specs page. So I'd say it's time to retire that 6200.

      Crap, just bought it too.

Any recommendations? I know very little about which graphic cards are okay, but I've heard the DDR3 cards will work on a DDR2 motherboard. I'm open to suggestions.

For flash, play any video on youtube, right click on video, choose settings and uncheck "enable hardware acceleration". Then restart your browser and see if there is any difference.

          Hi...

Why purchase a new card? Sounds like your onboard chipset provides the solution, unless it affects system performance in other ways.

Yep, I did that. I also bypassed GPU validation, which worked with youtube videos, but only helped on video sites like Dailymotion. I realized that it's completely hardware related so I tried to update my video card driver from Nvidia. In the end, I ended up crashing my system (completely my fault) and did another install.

For surfing the web and playing videos, it's fine. But I like to work with GIMP and other graphics intensive programs and a good video card would help alot.

I'm thinking DDR3. Going to look up some cards at Newegg. 8)

Correct. You don't have to match the RAM type on your graphics card to the RAM type on your motherboard.
