Xonar D2X problem

I just installed Natty and noticed some sound problems. I went to the Multimedia applet in System Settings, clicked on the Phonon item and the first thin that comes up is a message box asking "Do you want Phonon to permanently forget the following devices" (or something like that and it gives a long list of devices related to the Xonar card. there's also some claim that the hardware has been removed or is no longer functioning.

This is very strange because is was just working fine in 10.10 and works fine if I boot into Win 7.

Any thoughts on what I need to do to get audio working again under Natty?
