SOLVED: wicd can't connect, but machine could under plain ubuntu

One of the Satellite L305 that I've tried to upgrade, finally reinstalling, is having wireless trouble--can't connect.

I've had to use the ubuntu alternate install, as the regular won't work. Wireless ran fine on this machine under juanty.

I have typed the passphrase in several times for three different networks, and even pasted it in through X from another working machine.

kdm-kde3 (maverick) is the controlling login manager.

In addition to not talking to encryptd wireless, it fails to connect to the only unencrypted network I can find (unable to get ip address)

    Any suggestions?

    thanks

I'm guessing you still have some network manager components installed.

Can you post the output of

    dpkg -l | grep network

    thanks -

Thank you. There were a couple of stray network packages; removing them stopped the problem.

Apparently, wicd could run after installation, but got preempted by network after a boot (I observed the same behavior on a subsequent install.

Shouldn't one of these pulldowns let me mark this as solved?)

Nah - you have to edit the first post in the thread and change the thread title.

        Glad you got it working
