No printer drivers avaiable on new install

To install at all on a pair of Toshiba Satellite L305, I had to use the Ubuntu Alternate disk (natty) and then the trinity remix for maverick. This has been glitch after glitch after glitch . . .

One machine is now all but running. When I try to install a printer, though, it doesn't find *any* drivers, whereas it found a few earlier. I've also told it to install the packages with brother drivers (It's a 5370-DW)

This machine worked fine with jaunty, and started a version or two before that.

What can cause the missing printers?

a cups related package is not installed if i had to guess. im not sure what one there seam to be a few with "brother" in the name. you should also be able to download the ppd file from openprinting.org or maybe even brother themselves.

I now have this happening on two out of three.

Cups thinks that it is installed. Is there a way to force-reinstall all of cups withut resorting to dpkg?

      Thanks

you can search in synaptic for packages w/ cups,
then sort by installed, select all installed then rt.click and select reinstall , thats prolly the fastest way to do it
