Sony Vaio Function Keys Not working

    Hello All,

I have a Sony Vaio with Kubuntu 11.04 installed and I was wondering if there was a way to enable the function keys to work?

    Thanks,

    Craigbert

Are you referring to the multi-media keys? If you are, I don't think so. I had an older VAIO a few years back, and I did not find a way to get them to work 'as depicted.' These keys were included by Sony, for Sony.

      Snowhog,

I don't think I am referring to the multi-media keys. What I see is stuff like mute the speaker, decrease volume, increase volume, decrease screen brightness, increase screen brightness, toggle between the laptop screen and an external video, ....that is all I can recall from memory, but I think that pretty much covers it.

      Thanks,

      Craigbert

See if you have the package acpi-support installed.

          Thanks again Snowhog.
Yes, I do have acpi-support installed.
Could I be missing a different package or is there a certain way to configure the acpi-support?

          Thanks,

If your VAIO's keys are like those on my Toshiba, then there might be a Fn key (mine's between the left Ctrl and Windows meta-key). On my Toshiba I have to, for eample, press+hold the Fn key plus the desired 'special key' to dim/brighten the LCD.

              Snowhog,

Yes, I am using the "FN" key. It seems to work for the volume, but none of the other special functions appear to be working.

              Thanks,
