    Kubuntu Dvd drive Read-Only want to make it Read-Write

    Hello back again I posted this in the Newbie section but i thought it would fit better in the Pre-Release since that is what im using, Anyways like stated above my dvd drive is saying its read only and i would like to make it read/write here is some info:

    you do realize you have a DVD-ROM drive right? ROM means Read Only Memory.

      I think the OP is thinking of something like Mt. Ranier [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_R...ket_writing%29](at least as I understand it) where the DVD/CD ROM drive is treated like a great big floppy.

      Again from what I've read & from my limited experience, packet writing is notoriously unreliable.

        You still need to have RW device of some kind. a ROM device can never write. Unless the OP's drive says RW on it. lshw is basicly going to repot what the devices EEID chip says the device is.
