[solved] KDE - Blank screen after logoff

    Hi,

I encountered a problem in KDE: I can't logoff as a user and then login as another one.

When I leave the session, the following options behave normally:

    - Shutdown
    - Reboot
    - Change User

But when I chose to logoff, I would expect KDM to reappear and show me a login screen. Instead of this, I first get a black screen, then after a few seconds my screen automatically switches to power save mode since there is no input signal.

Can anybody give me a hint on how to trace that problem?

By using google, I already found a hint to add the line "TerminateServer=true" to the [X-*-Core] section of /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc which apparently fixed a similar problem a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, this does not work here.

    Regards,

    Jens

see if it works with desktop effects disabled. If it does, try enabling them again but do not use the 'darken at logout' effect.

Try checking whether your X session has been bumped to vt8.

When you see the black screen, press ctrl+alt+f8 to switch to vt8 to see if the login greeter (kdm) is there. You can press ctrl+alt+f7 to return to vt7 if you don't see the greeter.

        Hi,

        thank you for your hints.

The problem is fixed now. When I booted my PC there were several updates available which I installed first. Then, after checking, I found that the problem was gone.

        Regards,

        Jens
