Now Playing widget = massive CPU usage.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but when I add the Now Playing widget to the desktop (as of 2010/12/8), CPU usage of Xorg and plasma-desktop go up to about 60% *each* and stay there.

Removing this one widget (even leaving 6 other widgets on my desktop) takes those two processes down to below 6% utilization.

Re: Now Playing widget = massive CPU usage. (+solution)

You are right. Although, for me (updated to Dec 8 on 8 GB USB) when that widget is running along with System Monitor, rekong, Amerok (internet radio), and kterm, xorg is 10-15%, plasma-desktop is 15-20%, and kworker (whatever that is) runs around 20% with or without the widget. Closing the widget with everything else still up and streaming music playing, xorg is 1% if anything at all, plasma-desktop is sleeping, but that pesky kworker is still slaving away at 20%.

With the widget up system load shows 3 cpus averaging 60% and one averaging about 5%. When the widget is closed one cpu still averages about 75%, but the others drop to 5+/- range. But I always wonder percent of what, because even with one cpu at 75% the cpus have dropped to idle speed.

Can you tell when I closed the widget:

Re: Now Playing widget = massive CPU usage.

I just now tested out a hunch that maybe it was due to Amarok (the only media player I keep running) sending a constant stream of messages.

However, Amarok has been vindicated. The Now Playing widget causes Xorg/plasma to eat CPU even with no media players loaded.
