cups problem

since the last cups update I have terrible troubles with it. it seems cups is not started on boot and if I try to do so manually I get:
$ start: Unknown job: cups

I also tried
$ apt-get install -- reinstall cups
with no luck......

any help is much appreciated!

Do these files exist?

/etc/init/cups.conf
/etc/init.d/cups

And what's the output of this command:

dpkg --get-selections |grep cups
