    Unetbootin asks for password

I tried to run Unetbootin on my Kubuntu 10.10.
I tried to download it from official page or follow the PPA route.
Either way, when I run it, it asks me for some root password. My password which I use for sudo/Adept/... does not work.
    Any clues?

Same version works fine in Ubuntu 10.10.

Any reason you didn't install it from KPackagekit, Synaptic, ... (or the console with apt-get install unetbootin)? It's available from the standard repositories.

"PPA route" means I installed it via Software Centre (bottom item in the Applications menu). But I added another source in the list before that. Shouldn't I do that?

        Re: Unetbootin asks for password

Well, before adding anothe source for unetbootin, I'd try using the release/version that is already available with the standard repositories. In you case, if it were me, I'd uninstall unetbootin, deactivate (comment out) the repo you added, update the package cache, and then select/install unetbootin again. This will install it from the default repositories.

Although I like unetbootin I've had better luck with KDE's startup disk creator.

I think Ubuntu startup disk creator only supports Ubuntu-type of systems. I had issues with Aptosid, for example.

              I'll give it a go.

I've used it with system rescue CD ISOs, which unetbootin doesn't like sometimes

Then we have 2 tools which can be used depending on the iso in question. Both should be applied when necessary.

True. I can't explain why neither of them works consistently but I've been able to make a bootable USB drive using one or the other

                      That does not help...
