<SOLVED> Stopping system startup sound - how to?

Perhaps my problem is the way things got rearranged in SystemSetting with the last major system update, but in any case I cannot discover (and I did search the forum) how to STOP the system from making a sound with it boots. Sometimes I want to boot my netbook and not call attention to the fact that I'm doing it.

Can anyone tell where this setting is, and if something non-obvious is required, HOW to make the bootup process wholly silent?

    Thanks in advance!

Looking at Kubuntu 11.04, it looks like System Settings > Application and System Notifications > Applications Tab > pull down the Event Source window, and select "KDE Workspace". Halfway down the list, you find "Login", and if you highlight, it will be obvious where the check mark needs to be removed.

Probably you need to do the same with some of the other sounds, like "Logout" and "information Message.

Or, after you've (silently) logged in, you can turn the speaker volume down to zero and get the same result.

I'm still in 10.10, but your directions took me to the right place. Also solved another, wholly unrelated problem, which I'm going to post elsewhere as a HowTo. Many thanks!

      Yours in the great silence...
