No time was wasted, and knowledge was most likely gained. This forum, and it's members, are here to help and assist in any way we can.

All of which says a great deal about this community. The very best online forum I've ever seen is that for the Lilypad music engraving software - amazing in its speed, helpfulness, and positive attitude. This one is very close to that one. In this last thread it's been every bit its equal due to speed of response and wealth of ideas. Hooray!

These experiences, I find, do a lot for my general opinion of my fellow human beings. With luck, maybe we'll survive the next 1000 years. Maybe...

Hi when I see anything that has the three letters "MRL" in it I usually start groaning because it is one of the repository things, but it seems that you have those covered.

The other thing that I have many times run into is the "menu system" on the DVD. Quite often in the past couple of years, depending on the distro and the hardware I'd get just blank screens or the MRL thing if there was some kind of "non-standard" menu system and also on the less expensive DVDs that had a "thin" burn.

The solution there was to open the cd in the file system and as you have seen sometimes that can't be done because of the....MRL!

But if one can somehow get at the files on the DVD ans start clicking through them usually one can find the one that is the "movie" and click it and it goes so you might try that if you can ever actually get "at" the DVD.

Another oddball thing that can happen has to do with the two plugs on the ribbon. The realtaionship between the plug and the bios can change how the names like cdrom0 and cdrom1 are seen by the distro.

I have a DVD/rwyou name it that one linux uses to load a DVD like to burn etc. but then it particularly wants music to only come from the cd, eventhough the dvd would play it.

So...sometimes changing the designations and mount points can alter the situation als.

Very interesting information. Will keep this in mine. Fiddling is for more than dancing, it would seem!
