    Konsole positioning

Okay, this is driving me nuts

When I open a new terminal (Konsole) it starts up in the upper left screen UNDER my panel. A 2nd terminal in the same workspace opens okay (I assume due to tiling).

Now, I can "fix" this by setting the geometry position in window-rules. But, that means that each konsole I open is in the same position, defeats tiling.

I can only assume that I have set a geometry preference somewhere ... but I have looked and can't find anything which points to this.

    Suggestions?

    Re: Konsole positioning

This is really silly. I've been doing a bit more testing and have found that any program I open multiple copies of has the same behaviour as konsole, ie. the 2nd copy opens under the taskbar. If I move the taskbar to the screen bottom things work okay. But, with the taskbar (or is it called a panel?) the 2nd copy opens under the panel hiding the window bar.

Right-click on the Panel and look at it's options. There is a choice for 'always on top' that if checked, does what you are describing. Uncheck that option.

        Thanks. But, no ...

When I right click on panel for options (or hit the button on the right) I get the options:

        ......
        More Settings
        - Always Visible
        - Auto Hide
        - Windows can cover
        - Windows go below
        Maximize panel

I have "Always Visible" selected. I've tired others, but no help ... the other options seem to do what they advertise.

I think I have the same version as you do, but my options appear to be different? Is my system screwed up?

Under More Settings, check Windows can cover.

Yes, that does what it suggests. But, now I get windows opening on top of the panel (instead of underneath). I don't want that. I want all windows to open BELOW (south of, not underneath) the panel. With this setting I still get windows opening at the top of the screen covering the panel.

If that's the best we can do, okay I'll leave it like this, but I do think it's a bug or a config issue? And most likely looking at panel options is the wrong thing to be looking at ... it makes sense to have "always visible" forcing the panel to be "always visible". Now, the problem is that I want new windows to never open up underneath the panel

            Thanks for the help!

Okay, I understand what you are saying, and yes, you are right, that the behavior you are getting isn't normal. It isn't the way my apps open and present themselves on my display.
