I'm one of those Really Old Guys who's been whining every since *buntu stopped including xmms in their distributions - and xmms2 really doesn't trip my trigger at all. Who needs a client-server model if all you want to do is listen to music?
I don't want my mp3 player to scan my hard drive, build any kind of a database, or wind my watch for me - all I want is for it to play music files and be able to either shuffle tracks or randomize the playlist (or preferably both). Being able to use my favorite winamp2 skin would be a bonus.
Anyway, I've been using audacious for awhile and although it's not bad it tends to choke on a less-than-perfect mp3 and I end up having to interact with it a half dozen times a day when it tries to play an mp3 it doesn't like.
So today I find qmmp in the repos. Qt interface, will use my favorite winamp skin, will either randomize a playlist or shuffle tracks and doesn't barf all over my desk when an mp3 is less than perfect. The only complaint I've got is that I can't figure out how to keep the equalizer from displaying.
So far, so good. I've been running it for about three hours and it hasn't hiccupped on an mp3 once. I think I have my xmms back
