I notice that sometimes sudo works, sometimes it doesn't.
- When I login directly to my linux box, things seem to work the way I'd expect. In particular, kpackagekit works for updates.
- When I connect via X and KDM, sudo-type operations do not work. Kpackagekit does not work for updates (fails with "authentication failure", but no pop-up for my password), other apps with a different pw dialog (gsudo?) fail after password entry.
- I connected with an xterm (no KDE) and ran 'sudo kate' to edit a privileged file successfully. (I now know this is bad for other reasons; but it worked).
Any suggestions as to what I must do to enable admin operations when connected via X and KDM? Logistically it's a challenge to connect directly at the console when I want to perform administrative operations.
Thx,
Jon
