google search box not available anymore in firefox!!

I've just updated my packages in Kubuntu 10.10, after Firefox is updated to 3.6.15 I've noticed that I can't no longer use the search box!! In fact, there's no search options (google, yahoo, etc).

Do you know what could be the reason?

    Hi
just an odd thought but I have a little search box up at the top right of FF that has a maybe "google" symbol and then a small search box and a magnifying glass.

    Do you have that?

If so there is a little black drop down arrow to choose search engines.

Maybe click that to enable "google" and if the box has not come back close FF and try again, maybe somehow ...don't know....Lycos...is enabled! lol?

just a suggestion and it probably will NOT work!

Exactly, that black box drop down arrow is empty, there's no google, no lycos, nothing (I had several search engines configured there before the update)

        maybe an uninstall and reinstall?

but that's probably taking an ax to what should be done with tweezers, I'd wait a while for more comments before reinstalling.

In fact, I've already tried that (I've always liked axes ) but it didn't work either. Also, I've logged in as another user in the same computer and still have the problem, so it's not an issue with my local profile.

                Great Toshiro!

However, that required you to work as "root". Could you please discuss what the particular distro is, I assume Kubu, and how you "got to root", and any little particulars which a new person might be leery of doing?

Yes, I'm using Kubuntu 10.10. In fact, I think the problem is Ubuntu related, because if I disable the Firefox add-on "Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2" then the problem shows up again.

What I basically did was to execute the following command in Konsole:

                  sudo cp /usr/lib/firefox-3.6.15/searchplugins/en-US/* /usr/share/xul-ext/ubufox/searchplugins/

This way the command is executed with root permissions

                  Regards,
