I originally installed Ubuntu 10.10 a while ago, and subsequently installed the kubuntu-desktop and primarily use the plasma interface, kde apps, and the kdm login etc. What I've noticed however is that a fair while ago (I don't know exactly when) the graphic boot screen (originally the Ubuntu logo with the scrolling dots; and subsequently the Kubuntu logo with dots) changed to a text-based version; still with the dots, however no gradient background, and additional text detailing services starting/stopping (on startup and shutdown).
(I'm referring to the screen you get before the login screen; I'm not entirely up to scratch on terminology)
Is there anyway to restore the graphic screen rather than the text-based one? I've tried installing usplash (as it appears I don't have it installed) however both apt-get and kpackagekit are listing certain dependencies and then saying they will not be installed. I've even tried manually apt-get installing all the listed dependencies however am always told they're already installed...
I don't know what could be causing it, or what to do to restore the more visually pleasing alternative.
Any help would be great
Cheers,
Dean
