    Synchronising SmartPhones with Kontact

I've just acquired a new Android-powered LG smart phone, an LG-P500 (I was lucky - it was free as an upgrade to my mobile contract ). It seems excellent (so far).

It would be wonderful if it would be possible to interact with Kontact (which I use as my PIM). It connects via USB very easily to drag and drop photos, music and videos (which is very easy as it mounts automatically into Dolphin), but I'd like synchronise with Kontact for contacts and Calender and that doesn't look too obvious.

I've done a lot of Googling and various suggestions "out there" offer various tricky approaches. I just wondered if anyone knows of any recent synchronising software for Kubuntu.

Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas.

Sorry, can't help you, but recently got an LG P500, too

I am still finding the range of apps quite bewildering and am on the lookout for decent free apps which tell me which app uses how much bandwidth and what for (just one example). How about an "Android app thread" - would you be interested?

    EDIT:

    All done: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3115913.0

      Slightly OT but....

I use gmail with google calendar with thunderbird and lightning - works extremely well. Kontact doesn't work well with google calendar imho.

A week ago work got me a samsung galaxy. Setting up my gmail account on the phone made the default phone calendar sync with the google one automatically. Neat! So I've not got the phone syncing with the PC but instead have both syncing with google which I find better.

Thanks to both! Yes, Toad, I think the Android thread is a good idea.

Liquidator - Thanks, I'll have a look at using Google calender - but I'd like to keep Kontact if possible; I like it and am used to it although I did use to use Thunderbird. I guess that's the trouble with FOSS - too much choice!!!

Google cal integrates perfectly with both Kontact and Android. I recommend using it. I fought it for a long time (on my palm) and eventually gave in.

              Re: Synchronising SmartPhones with Kontact

              Hi
The "trick" is, I think on the hardware then Kontact side.

I don't know about the newer ones, I have the original T mobile with 1.6. But, in settings/Data synchronization it shows, for me "Gmail" and then "Calendar" and "Contacts". that is it.

When I had, notice had, them set to synch they always just synched with what I saw on the computer screen version of gmail etc.

And yes, the trick is to get gmail to talk with Kontact.

At another distro I tried to get gmail to work with gKrellm, and the only mail client that didn't want to work was gmail, until....

I went to my local ISP's mail program and it had INSTRUCTIONS on how to set up gmail, and it worked, but I just never have used an onboard e-mail thing much.

So...as to the Android thread, I would try to wade through the morass of my local ISP to see if they synch now, which they may not,

Not guaranteeing anything...just that I would try.
