K3b will not create audio CD from wav files

When I try to create an audio CD with K3b, I get the message

"Unable to handle the following files due to an unsupported format:
You may manually convert these audio files to wave using another application supporting the audio format and then add the wave files to the K3b project.
    /home/jon/tmp_musix/Alidina, Shamash-Mindfulness for Dummies/Shamash Alidina - 01 - Intro to Mindfulness.wav"

Note, though, that the file in question IS a wav file, which I converted from an mp3 file using SoundConverter.

Is there a problem with K3b or with the conversion by SoundConverter?

    Thanks in advance for suggestions.

The K3b is a user interface (gui) . It will use other apps to do the work.

Maybe some of the pieces are not there.

Do you have the libk3b6-extracodecs ?
The libk3b6-extracodecs will draw the support to many formats through the ffmpeg.

    The K3b is suggesting:
    Suggests: k3b-extrathemes, k3b-i18n, normalize-audio, sox, movixmaker-2, libk3b6-extracodecs, vcdimager

Chapter 7 - Declaring relationships between packages

    ...
    Suggests

This is used to declare that one package may be more useful with one or more others. Using this field tells the packaging system and the user that the listed packages are related to this one and can perhaps enhance its usefulness, but that installing this one without them is perfectly reasonable.
    ...

Here the K3b will give same kind of the error with the mp3. If the libk3b6-extracodecs is not installed.

I installed libk3b6-extracodecs but still have the same problem.

What surprises me is that it is suggesting to convert a wav file into a wav file. That does not make sense to me.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I need another idea.

I wonder whether there is a problem with the wav file you have created. Can your PC play it?

Try audacity. I have an ipod which had an issue with some mp3s I had. Importing them and re-exporting them with audacity made them work.

Check that you have libwavpack1 and wavpack installed

Re: K3b will not create audio CD from wav files

I have already installed both the libraries proposed, libwavpack1 and wavpack.

The file plays fine with vlc, audacious or SMPlayer. With amarok, it sounds like it has been recorded far too loud. Does that mean the file is bad?

I doubt it, because I have other problems with amarok, which often clips off the end of a file which vlc plays with no problem. I am definitely looking forward to amarok's using the phonon/vlc backend (or whatever it's called).

For info, I created the wav files from mp3 files using soundconverter. Could there be a problem there?

I honestly don't know. Of course the way you will find out is to install audacity and import the wav file and export it again - you can generally count on it to either get the export right or to grumble if there are any missing packages (or install them as dependencies).
