    increase the amount of disk cache memory [SOLVED]

    I opened kinfocenter and went to memory tab.
    There i got this
    http://img703.imageshack.us/i/snapshot5r.png/

    Question: How do I increase the amount of disk cache memory, since it says that small amount of Free Physical Memory and large amount of Disk Cache Memory equals to a system well configured.

    I remember in Mint10KDE having arround 75% or more Disk Cache Memory. How do i get that in Kubuntu 10.10?

    Thank you.

    Re: increase the amount of disk cache memory

    Found another issue regarding memory: it refers to kernel.

    if I log-in with kernel 2.6.37 i get http://img703.imageshack.us/i/snapshot5r.png/ --> 2.89 Gb of RAM

    if I log-in with kernel 2.6.35 -27 i get http://img684.imageshack.us/i/snapshot6e.png/ --> 3.86 Gb of RAM

    I installed the x32 version of Kubuntu from live-usb and after that i installed kernel 2.6.37.

    Question:

    How do I get to have ALL my RAM in kernel 2.6.37 ?
    Does one ever truly has a choice... ?

      why are you running a non-standard kernel? 2.6.35 is the latest official one in Kubuntu 10.10 - and i assume it is the same in Mint. Perhaps Mint has more things running in the background by default than Kubuntu?

      It can have a lot to do with where you got the 2.6.37 kernel and what modifications have been done, or not done. Also what is running at the time seems to be a factor. I see on my system as I close apps and turn off some of my activities (in Natty), my disk cache gets smaller. Maybe you don't have as big a disk cache if you don't a lot of running processes. If you are not experiencing any problems, I wouldn't worry about a chart

        it actually makes sense...

        i also see no major increase in speed... and by no major i mean not at all... :P

        i guess i will stick to 2.6.35...

        thread kind'of solved...
