Desktop effects list suddenly empty....

This weekend, I got into a creative mood and decided to fiddle around a little with my desktop appearance. I wanted a bit more spectacular stuff so I went into the system settings and wanted to tweak the desktop effects. Only to find they were all missing. The plugin list was completely empty...

Running the latest KDE on a 4 core AMD 64 bit, 8 gig RAM with an ATI 3870 graphics card.


Anyone any idea? (please, if you can, keep in mind I'm a noob to Linux, thanks!)

Have you got the fglrx-amdcode package installed?

I used to have an ATI and this package was essential in getting desktop effects to operate to a limited extent!

I have the following packages installed:
- fglrx;
- fglrx-amdcccle;
- fglrx-modaliases.
