    Live Cam Widget

Does anyone know a widget that is able to connect to a live cam url ?

I know there is a thing like this in windows 7 (no flame), I've used it and got used to having a widget on my desktop, rendering live preview of my city, or any city with a live cam available on the internet.

All i had to do in W7 was installing the gadget , enter the setup of it and type the url of the cam in a input box. The gadget would then connect to that url and show in a window live preview from that url.

I was looking for somthing similar on KDE but found nothing... Any ideas? I would definetly make a widget like that, but i don't know how...

Thank you for patience! Waiting for responses

Right click on the desktop, choose Add Widgets, type "web" on the search box, and try "Web Browser" and Web Slice". Not exactly what you are looking for, but both should do, I think.

they seem promising, but it requires java to run the live cam. How exacly do i enable java for web slice ? i've searched the internet, but found nothing. I'll keep doing that in the meantime

It may be a java plugin missing in your machine. As far as I know about plasma, this is embedding the KHTML component (KDE web browser). Could you please give me an URL to test on my side?

          or

http://194.102.194.221/ ( this is the url for both)

i was able to get this page shown

          http://85.204.149.242:81/cgi-bin/guestimage.html

in web browser widget and then scroll to the actual video wich makes this kind'of solved, but not really... i don't know...

Oh, there is some problem with Konqueror and Java. We need to track that. Sun's Java is installed here, and these pages load in Firefox, but fail in Konqueror (based on KHTML)

This simple test fails in Konqueror, too:
            http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

Once we nail this down, we should be done. There are some Java settings in Konqueror, and frankly, I don't see any problems. Time to Google ...

              Thank you for your interest.

I did some googling mysely, yet there is nothing related to java in web slice. As I could tell, this is a new widget in kde and might need more work to it be4 it reaches a fully potential.

              Is a cool widget though

                Re: Live Cam Widget

Sure It is a lot easier to look for Java in Konqueror. I am sure this applet is reusing the same KHTML engine as Konqueror. I'll probably open another thread for that ...

                  Got it working!

I think it is your lucky day? Today there were some updates for Java in Maverick

                  Setting up openjdk-6-jre-headless (6b20-1.9.7-0ubuntu1) ...
update-binfmts: warning: current package is openjdk-6, but binary format
                  already installed by sun-java6
                  Setting up openjdk-6-jre (6b20-1.9.7-0ubuntu1) ...
                  Setting up icedtea6-plugin (6b20-1.9.7-0ubuntu1) ...
                  Setting up icedtea-6-jre-cacao (6b20-1.9.7-0ubuntu1) ...
                  Setting up openjdk-6-jre-lib (6b20-1.9.7-0ubuntu1) ...

After installing those, I have java working in both konqueror and the widget 8)

yeah... no lottery today i guess

first two links still show me the "no java" error

third i got it going in web browser widget before and it looks ok, but not really...

I'll look into it tommorow night when I get back home.

In the meantime, could you please tell me if first two links work for you and if so, maybe do a short step-by-step guide so I can reacreate the process.

                        Thank you,
                        Good night!

Oh, my bad. I thought I was viewing your second link, but it's actually the third, which is also working for you Now I tried the first and second and they fail in Konqueror/Plasma (and they work in Google Chrome, but that doesn't help)

I think the best thing to do is if you can open a separate thread for the problem in Konqueror, and once we get that fixed, we resume this one. Sorry for the confusion!
