I don't know just what I did, but I was fiddling with my desktop settings and suddenly found that all my carefully chosen desktop backgrounds had disappeared, and I was back to the single default for all 12 of my desktops. Can anyone guess how I might have caused this by accident? Can I get my backgrounds back, or do I need to reconstruct them? I'm guessing that the list of backgrounds is stored somewhere.

Re: Lost my desktop backgrounds
Could be several reasons it happened but it's easy to fix. Right click on the desktop, select desktop settings, wallpaper, and then you'll see a list (likely only the default). Then click "Open" to look for other images on your computer or "Get New..." to download something new.

I'd like more than one
I know how to pick wallpaper for a single desktop, but I had 12 of them. I could, of course, just pick wallpaper again for each of them, forgetting what happened earlier. But it would be nice if I could actually restore the previous configuration for all 12 in a single action.

Re: Lost my desktop backgrounds
Yikes!12 desktops... well that is a problem isn't it?
I'm down to only two desktops - but with dual monitors it's effectively four.
To your issue: the current wallpaper setting is kept in ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc and this file is frequently written to, thus the likely source of your glitch.
You could, I suppose - as long as your desktop was stable - make a backup copy of this file. You'd have to re-do your backup every time you change a widget or anything else.
Maybe a cron-job that makes a copy every so often, say hourly? It wouldn't be very resource intensive so you'd never notice it. Then a desktop script in your kmenu to restore your last desktop with a click of a button?
I looked to find where you might be able to set multiple desktop default wallpapers but it's not obvious if it exists. You should post this as a feature request, considering how many of us often accidentally bork our desktops!

Re: Lost my desktop backgrounds
I just found you can write an automatic KDE System Administration Plasma Desktop Script that can be executed at boot or some other action.

Here's a sample wallpaper script: https://projects.kde.org/projects/kd...etWallpaper.js
