SOLVED: Set shortcut to swap a window between one screen and another

    Hi,

I've just set up Kubuntu to use a second monitor on my laptop.

It looks great, but I would like to be able to send windows from one monitor to the other by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Z, how can I set this up?

    Thanks,
    ANkh

you might find what you looking for in the advanced window settings. click on a windows icon and try the advanced window settings you might be able to map a key to move / resize. else you should look in system settings->shortcuts and gestures.

      Thanks sithlord48.

I also got this response via identi.ca:

I'll try both or your suggestions when I am using that machine tomorrow, and report back here.

You know, I've been using dual monitors for all these years, and KDE (generally Kubuntu) for most of them, and for some reason never did it occur to me to bother setting up a keyboard shortcut to move a window between screens. That's actually quite embarassing. I just tried setting a kwin global shortcut for "window to next screen" (indeed meta+ctrl+right, although I might make it meta+ctrl+L or such just to avoid having to likely move both hands) and it works perfectly! Thanks for bringing up this question, and I'm going to be sure to send my thanks to @goo on identi.ca.

Hah, well I'm glad my question was of service to you.

The reason I wanted to do this was that on Windows I use a utility called Zbar and these are it's presets.

It's really cool how you can do this all with built in utilities in Kubuntu, just a shame it's not a little easier.

Re: Set shortcut to swap a window between one screen and another

On my XP laptop (my company's idea, not mine!) I use a second monitor at work. I have a utility called "UltraMon" that does several things but the one on topic is it puts two extra decorations (the little function buttons on the window titlebar). One of them causes the window to jump to the other monitor. It's a great function.

I wonder how hard it would be to add a decoration to a kde window theme and make it work that way?

Re: Set shortcut to swap a window between one screen and another

              Okay new problem,

My Kubuntu install is visualised through VirtualBox.

VirtualBox does a good job of outputting to both screens (It generates two windows and runs them in fullscreen, convincing the OS that it has two monitors), but the OS keeps forgetting its settings (or twigging that it's not the same monitor), when it is booted so what is the best way to reapply my settings?

The default is duplicated screens and every taskbar I have created defaults to that screen.
Could I write a script to reapply my settings on launch?
              How would I do that?

              Thanks,
              ANkh

Okay, well I've created a new thread.

Now we can turn this thread over to oshunluvr's question:
