How to add "My computer" icon

    Hello.

How to add a Windows's "My computer" like option on KDE? It is a very important option available on Windows, and I need it on Linux.

I have another partition in the hard disk and I want to use it, but I can not find it. Futhermore, I need to see, without effort, how much space is free or used in pendrives and partitions. It means that I can see if a partition is full and I do not need to worry to check it. I do it on Windows.

    Thanks

as to the partition you cant find........open a terminal and do
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
    that's a lower case L

    and post the output.

if you open dolphin (the file manager) you will see on the left side the places panel (F9 togals it on/off) the other partition should be thare if it isent in fstab and mounted at boot.

and eney pen drives will show their as well and display how full it is.

what was so special about the "my computer" that you nead ??

Everybody has a different take on what is easy, but to me just typing the two letters "df" is easy. Not only that but it will tell you everything you need to know about what space is available and what is used.

There is an option in Dolphin for showing space usage - an absolute must, I agree

As for this important my computer button - it won't see your lost partition either.

You may want to try gparted for a GUI to see whether it is still there, but to help you further we will need to know type and how you want it mounted.

Personally, I use the Hard Disk Status plasmoid for quick reference. It lists all the partitions with the remaining amount of space available, and you can add USB drives if you choose.

In Dolphin you can select the settings to display space information - Select: Settings, Configure Dolphin, General, Status Bar, and check the box for Show space information.
So when you plugin a USB drive you'll be able to quickly see how much remaining space is free.

Also in Dolphin, I have on the left-hand side, Places, which lists Home, Network, Root, Trash, the other partitions (with total size), and various other folders which I drag and dropped such as Downloads folder, and a few other commonly used folders I use. It also lists USB devices which I plug-in.

a KDE IO Slave - 'My Computer'

KIO Sysinfo is a KDE IO Slave, sysinfo:/, used for the 'My Computer'
icon on openSUSE desktops. It displays Folders, Hard Disks, Removable Devices,
System Information and more to give the user a nice overview.

I found the other partitions in Dolphin, but why do I have to type root password to use them?
There is a Floppy option, but there is more than 8 years that I do not see one.

Some reading about the password protected NTFS partition thing:
