Is <ALT> a special key in KDE?

I finally got my favorite game "Civilization 4" to work in wine for Kubuntu 10.10. As I'm playing, I've noticed that I've lost the use of the ALT key, and from within the game it's pretty important.

Is this a special key reserved for KDE, or WINE? and if so, is it possible to "override" it?

    I found something similar here

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=455370

    Does that help?

Well that's a thought. Problem is do I try and program Civilization to use the windows key, or look for it somewhere in KDE? Looked at the standard keyboard shortcuts and didn't see anything that was "ALT" only.

Thinking out loud here, but it probably will be easier to get into the civilization.ini and change the ALT to SUPER. Just noticed that there are a lot more ALT+ key combos in CIV.
