[Solved] Kde Desktop effects

Hi guys,

I am experiencing a strange issue with KUBUNTU 10.10 install on my laptop .

KUbuntu has been running perfectly with desktop effects on the laptop for a while now.

Suddenly today desktop effects have stopped working.

I have not changed anything on my laptop so I cant understand why this has happend.

When I open desktop effects I can enable them but they instantly disables its self again.

When I go to the All Effects tab there are no effects listed were as there used to be (screen shot attached). I believe this is my problem but I am at a loss as to how I get them back. (I wonder if permissions have changed someware)

Don't know if this is relevant but the only problem I have experienced recently is when I was playing wow on wine the other day I tabbed out of game to my desktop, this crashed the laptop and I had to do a hard reset. This did not stop Desktop effects working after the restart.

Please help me!

Not sure whether this will work for you but if you rename the following hidden file
/home/.kde/share/config/kwinrc
it should reinstate kwin to its original state.

Important - rename it (preferable by giving it say a suffix) rather than deleting it so you can reinstate if it doesn't work.

Then logout (or reboot) and log back in. Hopefully the effects will be back.
