Hello,
I am trying to setup a older machine (pentium 4) with 10.10. If all goes well I'm gonna install 10.10 64 bit on a new machine as file/webserver/downloader which now runs xp.
So far all is going well except for x11vnc which keeps crashing KDE hard, it restarts X.
I don't see much in the logfile.
I can mostly recreate the crash by going to System settings - software - installed software and remove for instance something like KCalc.
My command line for x11vnc is
/usr/bin/x11vnc -forever -nopw -noxfixes -noxdamage -o ~/.vnc/x11vnc.log -display :0
(I don't need authentication, my router is NAT.)
If I can't get this to work properly it's going to be a showstopper.
I have tried krfb which does not crash but uses far too much cpu.
I tried tightvncserver which was useless, vino same thing, I tried freenx but couldn't get it to work, besides I don't like the proprietary viewer.
I've seen so much webpages with howto's and problems about x11vnc I am getting a bit lost.
I considered some other distro like trying 10.4 and I have been looking at the kde3 project but I think if that I will only get more problems if I don't use uptodate distro's.
Edit: although at this point I'm gonna try me a setup with Hardy because I do think it's related to kde4.
Thanks for any help / suggestion.
