sorry, you were installing the headers...

      try installing first the headers-all

      then headers

      and final image

Actually I could not install the headers at all, but I could install the image.

        master@master-Lenovo-G550:~$ uname -a
        Linux master-Lenovo-G550 2.6.37-020637-generic #201101050908 SMP Wed Jan 5 10:17:13 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux

        At least I think...

        Hurt to be a noob

Any advice ? Is this ok, even if I could not install the header ? Any thing I should do be4 installing header ? Am I in any trouble right now?

Currently running Kubuntu 10.10 Kde 4.6 and apparently kernel 2.6.37-020637-generic

Header can't be installed even after image ...

the headers are only nedded to recompile your kernel, or to compile software like the nvidia drivers...

you can use only the image i think...

            and worked without problems .

            now i have this

            master@master-Lenovo-G550:~$ uname -a
            Linux master-Lenovo-G550 2.6.37-020637-generic #201101050908 SMP Wed Jan 5 10:17:13 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux

witch is identical with the one be4.

What about the patch 363. Is it for x32 OS as well ?

As far as I could tell is for x64 systems only. Am I right ?

Re: GTK Style lost after update to KDE 4.6

the patch is for any architecture...

it increase the performance when the computer is at stress like converting a avi to dvd...

i first saw this patch working in pclinuxos and the performance was very good...

see here the page from con kolivas

              http://ck-hack.blogspot.com/

and here the test performance between ubuntu and pclinuxos>

              http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag..._fourway&num=2

if you want you can apply other patch like the cgroups patch, that increase a little bit the performance in stress situations...

              see here>

Re: GTK Style lost after update to KDE 4.6

Don't get me wrong, but if they increase performance, why are they not included in an update ? Just curious, not flaming or anything. And why different patches? Are they specifically designed for a certain thing, or overall performance?
Do i have to choose one , or are they compatible? Many questions from the new guy

i think that cgroups patch is included in 2.6.38

with the bfs patch i have the same question like you...

in ubuntu we have only the generic kernel, we dont have a desktop kernel like in mandriva, opensuse, arch, etc...

                  only 250hz kernel

but i made some tests and with a 1000hz kernel the system sometimes feels a little bit slower...

i think that the rt kernel is again available in natty, but i dont know...the rt kernel is a 1000hz kernel by the way...

wow... I have no idea what you're talking about... but I guess that's a no to compatibility issues... :P

i could assume that a 1000hz kernel is 4 times faster than a 250hz one, but that sounds silly... to me...

i've decided that my system is fast enough for me and i wont mess with it further more.

Thank you all for the help !
