GTK Style lost after update to KDE 4.6

    Hi there....

My name is Helder Meneses and i-m from Portugal...

i use Kubuntu because it is simple, beatifull and now that i have kernel 2.6.37 with bfs 363 it simply blasts off...

i have a problem in gtk style after update to KDE 4.6.

All my gtk apps like firefox , eclipse doesnt use gtk style defined in system settings...i have molecule gtk style...

i dont suffer from the bug that kdeinit deletes the gtkrc from home folder...

it is there, i go to systemsettings and the style molecule is selected but no style is used in gtk apps...

i noticed that there isnt the package gtk-qt-engine-kde4 in the repositories...

maybe it is a conflit with oxygen-gtk that was made for KDE 4.6?

can anyone help me to try to solve this?

    thanks...

It's working fine here. Please post the output from the following commands:
    Code:
    apt-cache policy gtk2-engines-pixbuf
    cat ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4

      hi,

      apt-cache policy gtk2-engines-pixbuf
      returns:

      gtk2-engines-pixbuf:
      Instalado: 2.22.0-0ubuntu1
      Candidato: 2.22.0-0ubuntu1

      cat ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4

      returns:

      # This file was written by KDE
      # You can edit it in the KDE control center, under "GTK Styles and Fonts"

      include "/usr/share/themes/oxygen-gtk/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"

      }
      widget_class "*" style "user-font"

Ok, please do the following steps:

        1. Delete .gtkrc-2.0-kde4
        Code:
        rm ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4
        2. Select any gtk style in GTK+ Appearance
        Code:
        kcmshell4 kcmgtk
        3. Post output of these commands:
        Code:
        cat ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4
        du -h /usr/share/themes/

I have the same problem (In fact, it is the only problem I have with KDE 4.6), and followed your instructions. Here is the output of "cat ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4":

          Code:
          # This file was written by KDE
          # You can edit it in the KDE control center, under "GTK Styles and Fonts"

          include "/usr/share/themes/oxygen-gtk/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"

          style "user-font"
          {
              font_name="Trebuchet MS"
          }
          widget_class "*" style "user-font"

          gtk-theme-name="oxygen-gtk"
          gtk-font-name="Trebuchet MS 8"
And output of "du -h /usr/share/themes/":
          Code:
          44K /usr/share/themes/QtCurve/gtk-2.0
          16K /usr/share/themes/QtCurve/mozilla
          64K /usr/share/themes/QtCurve
          8,0K /usr/share/themes/Raleigh/gtk-2.0
          12K /usr/share/themes/Raleigh
          8,0K /usr/share/themes/Emacs/gtk-2.0-key
          12K /usr/share/themes/Emacs
          16K /usr/share/themes/oxygen-gtk/gtk-2.0/special-icons
          48K /usr/share/themes/oxygen-gtk/gtk-2.0
          52K /usr/share/themes/oxygen-gtk
          8,0K /usr/share/themes/Default/gtk-2.0-key
          12K /usr/share/themes/Default
          156K /usr/share/themes/
          Any ideas?

it seems that .gtkrc-2.0 doesnt exists...

            now all gtk themes works...

i cant figure out where is gtk-oxygen package...

the package that i used was downloaded from natty packages...

Ok we need more info , please post output of these commands:
              Code:
              echo $GTK2_RC_FILES
              ls /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/
              EDIT:
Glad you have fixed it, so your problem is you don't have this script ~/.kde/env/gtk2-engines-qtcurve.rc.sh loaded at startup.

geneiros and ubuntuku, thanks a lot for your help!

The problem is indeed solved after I copied .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 to .gtkrc-2.0.

                .gtkrc-2.0 was missing.

i cant figure out where is gtk-oxygen package..
It should be installed by default, but if not, just go to

                http://kde-look.org/content/show.php...content=136216

then install the provided debian (.deb) file and select it through system settings/GTK appearence.

                Regards.

Re: GTK Style lost after update to KDE 4.6

Just make sure you have this script ~/.kde/env/gtk2-engines-qtcurve.rc.sh (create one if it doesn't exist) loaded at startup.
                  [code=gtk2-engines-qtcurve.rc.sh]
                  #!/bin/bash

                  # Make sure our customised gtkrc file is loaded.
                  export GTK2_RC_FILES=$HOME/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4
                  [/code]

You can check if .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 is already loaded in your environment by running this command:
                  Code:
                  ubuntuku@satellite:~$ echo $GTK2_RC_FILES
                  /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:/home/ubuntuku/.gtkrc-2.0:/home/ubuntuku/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4:/home/ubuntuku/.kde/share/config/gtkrc-2.0
So you don't have to keep duplicating .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 to .gtkrc-2.0 everytime you change GTK+ style.

                    Thanx Guys,

I solved the problem by symlinking .gtkrc-2.0-kde4

                    Code:
                    ln -s .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 .gtkrc-2.0
                    It works.

Nobody is perfect. A bug is reported in launchpad.net:

                    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ce/+bug/352946

The problem is that the kde upstream will not really supported by kubuntu backports. It is an issue at all.
I know this will be fixed in Natty.

                    Bye

                    Otto

How do you get kernel 2.6.37 ? Is it safe, stable? could you please detail this a bit?

                      Thank you.

                        you have 2 ways...

                        download kernel-headers and kernel-image from here>

                        http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa...v2.6.37-natty/

choose amd64 or 386 depending on your platform.

                        or

recompile the kernel with the patch 363 from con kolivas. When i recompiled the kernel i had installed the above kernel and used the configuration created.

sorry i forgot to answer your question...

using the configurations from kernel 2.6.37 in mainline repository everything is working...like it was when i used 2.6.37.

it seems a bit faster...and very stable...

Thanks for the quick answer! Let's see how good I am at doing totally new and potential dangerous things

If I recall well, someone said something like... Get linux, fix it until is broken, then reinstall and start all over again

                            That sounds so cool :P

Yeah, linux is a powerfull monster tool...

there is no problem in compiling the kernel....

the worst that can happen is, you cannot boot into your new kernel...

boot with the previous kernel and you are in...
